Resident Evil 3 8K60 FPS Gameplay Looks Great Despite lowering Effects

Capcom’s Resident Evil 3 Remake released earlier this year and is one game that sports some GPU breaking options. With the arrival of Nvidia’s 30 series graphics cards, how well does the game hold-up, especially with regards to the RTX 3090’s 24 GB of Vram. We ran the game under various conditions starting with 4K HDR enabled and a 150% render resolution with all the other settings maxed out. This would have crippled our RTX 2080 Ti but at least the 3090 can handle this with a reasonably steady 60 fps. The biggest chug for most GPUs is the 8Gb Texture option let alone the 150% render resolution which puts it at 6K maybe?

Our next video test was to look at running the game with an effective 8K resolution whilst maintaining 60 frames per second. Obviously, we had to reduce most settings to their lowest but at least we found a pleasant middle ground. Perhaps the trade-off here is between running the game at max settings 4K60 fps versus a higher resolution with less graphics effects.

Our final run was to use Nvidia’s 30 series exclusive 8K30 frames per second shadowplay recording which requires native 8K for it to work. In this run we left all the settings at their maximum and was able to comfortably run the game between 30-40 fps. That’s pretty good going.

To conclude then. If you’re a proud owner of an 8K display then this game will look mint in 8K. Even on a 4K display the differences in clarity are an obvious improvement over native 4K. Nvidia’s claim of 8K60 fps are confirmed here, although the cost of reducing fancy effects might not make it worth it unless there is a DLSS option available (sadly not in Resident Evil 3). If you want to keep all the effects on though, the 30 fps is the trade-off, and we know it’s hard to go back to if you’re used to 60 fps.
