Sony has just revealed some specs for their upcoming PS5 compatible VR headset the Playstation VR 2 or PSVR2 alongside its controller called Playstation VR2 Sense (although Chinese VR company Pimax already coined the term “sense” for their VR controllers). Take a peek at the PSVR2 specs which are good by today’s standards but could be a little behind by the time they release most likely at the end of this year (although we’re speculating here).
There are lots of good things here including OLED display compared to many other headsets using LCDs, adjustable lens separation, 90/120hz and relatively sharp 2000×2040 per eye. In comparison the Meta Quest 2 has 1832 x 1920 per eye and the HP Reverb G2 has 2160 x 2160 per eye. The field of view could be better where 110 is fairly standard for modern headsets. Again, the Quest 2 has ~89 degrees and the Reverb G2 114 degrees. Eye tracking is a nice feature as well and the headset vibration sounds quite novel and a first for us. We’re not sure how that will work out in practice. They also announced that a new VR game from Guerrilla Games Horizon Call of the Mountain will be exclusive to the system expanding the adventures of Aloy.
