Metal Gear Survive Opening Feels Just Like Metal Gear

A look at the opening hour of Konami’s Metal Gear Survive on PC in 4K and using maximum graphics settings with a GTX 1080 Ti. There is quite a bit of a “Metal Gear” flavour here in terms of the presentation (despite the fact we’re dealing with zombie like humans in an alternate reality), with plenty of cutscenes and codec conversations to set-up events before you actually play proper. However, it does lack the tension and finesse of previous efforts. The game’s opening is in stark contrast to the Beta which merely showcased the co-op element leaving much to the imagination of players.

In the video we selected a female avatar which is represented in all the cutscenes, so you can have a bit of fun here if you’re willing to make a loony looking avatar for the duration although that said, thankfully you can change looks at any time further into the story. Having played well beyond the hour, the tutorials seem to last quite a long time so expect it to take a while before you can feel like you are familiar with the basics. So far, so good although we’ll withhold our final judgement until we publish our review when we have completed the game. Metal Gear Survive is out now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
