FIFA 14 and Flower become the top rated next gen launch games

Despite launching after the last gen version by quite some time, it appears that EA are spearheading the Xbox One and PS4 launch campaign with the highest rated game on Xbox One and in second place on PS4.  It seems the gaming media and some gamers themselves are quite clear that FIFA 14 is a most agreeable launch game on both the Xbox One/PS4 and this is before the game officially launches on the PS4 in football’s home ground of Europe. It has been confirmed by Charttrak who compile the weekly all formats software sales chart that FIFA 14 on Xbox One at least is the top selling game last week.

To break down the numbers and using the take it or leave it reviews aggregate website Metacritic as a source, at the time of writing, FIFA 14 on Xbox One is rated 86/100 just 4 points ahead of  Microsoft’s first party exclusive Forza Motorsport  5. User reviews place FIFA 14 at an average of 5.7 though.

On the PS4, FIFA 14 sits at the top with 88 points, just one ahead of EA’s other next gen offering,  Battlefield 4. User reviews are slightly more favourable with a 6.3 average.

Flower on the other hand has 92/100 points with an average user rating of 7.6/10.

What this really shows right now despite a lack of review sources at present,  is that there’s no definitive big budget launch game for either platform that has blown the gaming media away. It’s to be expected perhaps as it’s early days for the consoles, but what’s clear, is  the decision to launch multi-format games such as FIFA , COD Ghosts, and Assassin’s Creed IV on next gen systems has been a welcomed strategy that is likely to pay off as the consoles enter an inevitable period of a gaming drought.
