Xbox Live is over 10 years old

It seems such a long time ago – and it is – but as a reminder Xbox Live is over 10 years old now and continually grows despite the service being subscription based. Whilst competition from Sony’s free of charge PSN looks like the better deal, Xbox Live has continued to push a service that consumers have no problems paying for.  Here’s a message from the Xbox Live team to celebrate Live’s 10 years of service, and whilst we’re there; we’ll forget about the security breeches, offline moments and focus on more the yearly updates and evolution.

Hi,

It’s been ten years since the launch of Xbox LIVE and the service is bigger and better than ever and booming with entertainment and games. “Halo 4” has been smashing entertainment industry numbers and Microsoft just announced Xbox LIVE registered the most time spent on the service ever with 442 million hours in a one week period (Nov 6-13).

Marc Whitten, Corporate Vice President, Xbox LIVE, is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Xbox LIVE with a toast and special thanks to its 40 million members. We encourage you to check it out and join us in wishing a happy birthday to Xbox LIVE.

But what would a celebration be without a selection of discounted Xbox LIVE Arcade games? Starting today, 15 November, there will be a number of titles available at a 50% discount for one week only – and as an extra thank you, the Kinect-enabled “Wreckateer” will be absolutely FREE for 48 hours – so don’t miss out! The full list of on-sale games are:

But that’s not all. Starting 20 November, Xbox LIVE members will have access to “Kinect Sports Gems,” new bite-sized games from the BAFTA-winning “Kinect Sports” franchise. The first three instant-access games – Ski Race, Darts vs. Zombies and 3-Point Contest – will be available from 20 November; additional games are scheduled to be added in December and March. Ten games total will be part of “Kinect Sports Gems”, which is available to all Xbox LIVE members. One “Kinect Sports Gem” will be playable for free each week; all are available to purchase for 240 Microsoft Points each.

Happy Birthday Xbox LIVE!
