We just recently (within the last week) switched our broadband provider having been with SKY for a number of years. SKY offered us a respectable 30-35 Mbps (that’s megabit per second) line which seemingly catered to our needs; except since signing up with them all those years ago, the gaming space has changed quite considerably and 30 mbps no longer covers all our bases. The problem stems from the now increasing size of games what with Gears of War 4 reaching 103 Gb. Having just received an Xbox One X with its 1 TB HDD, Gears 4 alone can take a hefty chunk of the space. So what does one do if only a mere handful of games reduce your HDD space to low numbers. There is a choice to spend more cash and get an External HDD but what about upgrading the means of data transfer so that deleting games and re-downloading them isn’t an issue anymore.

Well, that is were we are at now thanks to joining Hyperoptic’s service. They installed all the cabling in our block and so we signed up immediately, and well…won’t be looking back to SKY any time soon. Hyperoptic offer a 1Gb/s service for a similar price we were paying for SKY (£44 per month SKY) although this rises to £60 per month after one year. We are happy with their 150 Mbps service which is 5 times faster than SKY. In a nutshell when it comes to downloading games from Xbox Live, PSN or Steam the time taken makes the option of managing HDD space a lot easier. Where before a download might take several hours can now be done at a rate of 1Gb per minute. Put that in perspective and Gears 4 can be downloaded in 1 hour 40 minutes.
