Silicon Rising Free Locomotion Is A Game-Changer

Developer Kukrgame promised a major-update coming soon to their cyberpunk-themed VR shooter Silicon Rising. Today we’ve sampled the updated game and can safely say it’s a massive improvement but also makes the game feel like a totally fresh experience. Previously, player movement was on-rails dictated by the story, but now the player has complete control as you can see in the video. Players have free-locomotion and the option for snap or smooth turning.

In our limited play on Medium difficulty this gives rise to two stand out points. Gameplay wise and in conjunction with a new manual reload, you have to think carefully where you’re moving to. It’s not a case of strafing left-and-right to avoid gunfire, more a case of tactical planning. You’ll eat bullets unless you exhibit cat-like reflexes to dodge incoming fire. In this regard the game is far more challenging than before.

The second point is the fact once the action is over, before moving-on you’re at liberty to have a closer look at the wonderful cyberpunk themed environment. This is instantly noticeable from the get-go in the office. You can move around freely and look out the window. In Times Square you can marvel at the awesome looking billboards. It just feels a lot more immersive now. Sadly barriers appear if you get too-close, but perhaps an option to toggle them off will be considered. In this case invisible walls would fare better for those more experienced.

We really like this update, and with more missions and new bits planned for the future, Silicon Rising feels like a nice FPS in VR that’s only going to continue to improve. We do wonder though due to the increased difficulty whether the developers will still include the on-rails mode as an option for those needing some hand-holding.
