Shadow of the Tomb Raider Max Settings RTX 2080 Ti Shows its Worth

We take another look at Shadow of the Tomb Raider in our series of comparisons between the RTX 2080 Ti and GTX 1080 Ti. This time we have bumped the graphics settings up to their maximum at 4K. This means using the resource hungry SMAAx4 which caused the game to chug when we benchmarked using the GTX 1080 Ti. So, how does it fare on the RTX 2080 Ti in comparison. The good news is, in some scenes where the 1080 Ti struggled to even reach a playable 30 fps, the RTX 2080 Ti wins. This is quite an important victory here because moving from an unplayable experience to one that is fine and dandy despite falling way short of 60fps is good. Whether it’s the cost of the expensive GPU good is up for debate. Still this is an interesting comparison. In our experience, it’s not really necessary to play with SMAAx4 at 4K even if it provides much smoother edges. Turning the option off for example gains over 20 fps.
