Microsoft are not Ditching Console/PC Exclusives with Play Anywhere

Contrary to what some people might believe with Microsoft’s announcements of Xbox Project Scorpio, Xbox Play Anywhere and its cross compatibility between Xbox and PC platforms, the company is not trying to remove console or PC exclusives according to Phil Spencer – head of Microsoft’s Xbox division.

Talking to PCGamesN.com Phil reiterated:

“I don’t think Play Anywhere is for every game, because you will have games that are console-only and you will have games that are PC-only. I don’t want people to look at Play Anywhere and see it as our desire to get rid of our unique PC games, or get rid of unique console games.”

Enough said really, especially for those who claim there will be no console exclusivity and little reason to own the upcoming Xbox Project Scorpio if they have a PC. Microsoft’s idea stems from not charging gamers twice for the same game and keeping the experience seamless across platforms which is commendable from a consumer standpoint. It’s unlikely we’ll see an industry wide adoption of this approach though where you can buy the latest Call of Duty for example and simply play it on multiple systems once you own it.
