Microsoft and Square are Very Happy with Rise and the Dev team

Brian Horton Game Director at Crystal Dynamics has candidly responded to an on-going discussion regarding the estimated 300K first week sales of Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox One and Xbox 360. These numbers are obviously a lot less than had the game been released on all platforms like its predecessor but due to a timed exclusivity deal Square Enix reached with Microsoft has meant the PC version comes early next year and the PS4 version releases at the end of the 2016. The exclusivity to just two consoles has annoyed some fans of the game but Brian has been quick to point out that both parties concerned are happy with the current scenario and that from a developer point of view they are well-pleased with the critical acclaim the game has received. So far Rise of the Tomb Raider has an impressive Metacritic ranking of 86/100 which puts it in the top 13 highest rated games on Xbox One.

“Microsoft and Square are very happy with Rise and the dev team, thanks for the concerns. Crystal and Eidos Montreal made a game we are proud of and we appreciate the overwheling number of positive reviews and fan feedback. We’re looking forward to the Game Awards next week where we are nominated for Best Action Adventure and Best Performance for Camilla. Wish us luck, hopefully it’s just the beginning of the recognition Tomb Raider and Lara Croft receives this year. It’s cool to see her on top again for the second game in a row. We’re all fans and for me it’s been the honor of my career to be a part of such a fantastic legacy. Next year 20th Anniversary!”
