Let It Die Is One of the Most Fun Games This Year and it’s FREE

The Grasshopper Manufacture developed free to play game Let It Die on the Playstation 4 certainly came as a surprise when downloaded and played for the first time just under a month ago. Now though having invested many hours into its dark and moody apocalyptic setting the conclusion here is this is a fun “must try” game regardless of a few niggling flaws. Probably the biggest gripe is the menu system for eating the game’s power-up mushrooms which rests on the not so accurate Dual Shock touch pad. The difficulty is also a little unforgiving at first until you realise that level 49 opponents on the first floor against a FNG level 1 character isn’t so tilted in favour of the AI.

There’s quite a bit of learning involved in this rogue-lite style survival action game and although you have choice in how you progress even when opponents are seemingly too hard, you can replay earlier levels as much as you want to level up characters, improve weapon proficiency or collect cash and resources for upgrades. Effectively you’re never locked out of the game or forced to spend real money to progress. After 100 hours or more playtime we’ve not had to spend a penny and never felt the need to either.

What’s perhaps great about this game is being able to breeze through the lower levels with your improved character. Taking out bosses in a few hits and generally being a bad-ass against all and sundry. The fact you have the choice to level up numerous characters (used to defend your waiting room against online attackers when not in use) means there’s always something to work towards. Take a look at the video showing some farming/resource gathering and a few boss battles. Let It Die is available now for FREE via the PSN.
