Is Xbox One winning the software war?

According to the Amazon.co.uk weekly sales chart it appears that gamers who have shown interest in Microsoft’s Xbox One console are also interested in one game in particular and it’s not a Microsoft first party title or exclusive. The Amazon charts place Call of Duty Ghosts as the most pre-ordered Xbox One game, with Battlefield 4 in close second – other games are way down the chart around 50/100 for Dead Rising 3. For the PS4, the most pre-ordered game, is once again, not a system exclusive but none other than Ubisoft’s Watchdogs. What’s interesting to note here is that it’s one thing to have consoles flying off the shelves, and another to have consumers actually buy the games. Considering Microsoft’s recent u-turn on its policies, it’s clear people still like to purchase game discs from retailers. Also, according to Amazon’s most ordered of the year 2013, Xbox One sits at 70th whilst the PS4 is in the top 5. If Xbox One has less pre-orders, then it’s a good showing that its games are being pre-ordered in high numbers.

With Microsoft claiming Call of Duty victory with its special relationship with Activision regarding DLC appearing on Xbox One/360 first, it’s clear this arrangement bodes well considering the massive user base that enjoys the game and the fact more gamers are showing interest in the Xbox One version of the game.

All things aside regarding the hardware and policies of each console, the real battles for both companies are with the software, and at this juncture, one of the most popular gaming series, is being favored on the Xbox One (according to one online UK retailer).
