Is Xbox One Now a better deal than PS4 for casual gamers?

It’s been a highly competitive series of months since November last year when Sony’s massive PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One both went on sale in close proximity to each other in the UK, and yet months later as expected the competition is still raging as Sony’s console has been in short supply and the Xbox One offering a price cut alongside  an attractive bundle with TitanFall. What’s more, UK retailers have further dropped the price of Microsoft’s games console with the Xbox One now selling for £349 at  supermarkets ASDA and online retailer Amazon. The deals both offer the Xbox One with the inclusion of a download code for the massively popular shooter TitanFall and one month’s worth of Xbox Live.

Originally the Xbox One was being sold at £429  when it launched and last month received an official promotional price cut down to £399 with the TitanFall bundle. Well now that retailers ASDA and Amazon.co.uk have slashed the price to just £349 it is an incredible saving and puts the console well on par with the Playstation 4 which doesn’t ship with a free game and is being sold at  around £349 via the same outlets.  What’s perhaps interesting to note here is that whilst core gamers will no doubt suggest the underlying fact that the PS4 is a more powerful console when it comes to actual games, and that multi-platform releases such as the recent Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes look and play better on the PS4; the crux of the matter is that casual consumers will be drawn towards the free game bundled with the Xbox One, and the Kinect camera which they will no doubt be well aware of from mainstream media. The question therefore has to be tossed about as to whether the Xbox One is now offering a better deal compared to the PS4 if…console power isn’t an issue. Previously, the entry price could have been seen as a deciding  factor and many might have dismissed the benefit of having Kinect included in the package which inevitably pushed the price up, but with these current deals offering the exact same package at a more competitive price, the Xbox One is certainly looking very attractive. Only time will tell whether the lower price resonates well with the paying public, but as it stands, it seems retailers are pushing the Xbox brand much harder than the PS4 which in many ways is selling itself without any special offers or promotions.
