GAME offers customers a free look at its own content before they buy

GAME has today announced a new Wi-Fi service for its customers in partnership with BT. In stores across the UK, gamers will be able to  download an app and browse the GAME web content such as product reviews and demos, previews, new, special offers and game info. Whilst on paper this means some consumers can make more knowledgeable purchases, the reality of being restricted to GAME’s own content might appear to be a little biased for those uncertain about the quality of a product.

Content from an independent source might have resonated better with consumers.  Either way, product reviews aside, it’s perhaps a good way for gamers to check out specifics on games before they buy especially if the service – which launches this Xmas – offers video streaming. Either way, if customers appreciate the service it might mean more people hanging around in stores not actually buying anything, or taking longer to make their minds up. During the busy Xmas period, this could pose problems for the floor staff.

Martyn Gibbs, CEO GAME Retail, said: “The introduction of in-store wi-fi signals a new level of customer experience and a major step towards achieving our vision of delivering excellence for the UK gaming community.

“Just as in the music and home movie market, online has revolutionised the way we discover and access new video games. As a company we are constantly evolving, listening to our customers and adapting our approach to deliver for them.”
