Forza Horizon VIP Membership Review

With so many new games popping up on a monthly basis I rarely purchase Limited Edition versions. Sometimes that extra content just isn’t worth shelling out the extra cash and other times I find myself wishing I had given into temptation to get my hands on the goodies. When Forza Horizon released last year I passed on the Limited Collector’s Edition that gave Horizon players a VIP membership that entitled them to 5 rare luxury sports cars and a host of other perks. Now the opportunity to become a Horizon VIP is available to every forza driver for 800 Microsoft Points. Is it too little, too late for this DLC package? Or is this worth spending that extra cash to upgrade your game?

For me Forza has first and foremost been about the cars and the VIP Car Pack delivers some of the most exotic high-performance cars in the world. You’ll be hard pressed to pick a favorite as you cruise the twists and turns in Colorado.

  • 2011 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento – Unlike any other car or Lambo on the road, this beauty takes its name from the sixth element on the periodic chart because its body is completely made of carbon fiber. The sleek design features sharp angles that make it look like stealth planes have given up on the sky and choose to rule the roads instead.
  • 2011 RUF Rt 12R – Traditional styling may be all this RUF has in common with its brothers and sisters. The 730 horsepower engine and massive 693 lbs. of torque make this a weapon no other driver could rival on the road.
  • 2011 Koenigsegg Agera – This is one vehicle that will leave you wondering if you should be tearing up some concrete behind the wheel or admiring its beauty while taking pictures with Colorado as the backdrop. The Agera boasts 940 horsepower and a top speed over 260 mph so choose your course carefully!
  • 2012 Pagani Huayra – Pagani must believe in the saying that nothing is perfected overnight since this car has been a work in progress since 2003. Needless to say the Huayra looks as beautiful as it handles hugging sharp curves like it is on a rail and accelerating the AMT robotized system with 1000 lbs of torque.
  • 2012 Audi R8 GT Spyder – Convertibles are always sexy, but Audi takes the design to new heights with this all-wheel drive beauty. In real life you’d slow down to turn heads, but in Horizon you’ll test out everything this car was made to do embracing all of its power and traction to leave opponents in the dust.

Along with the amazing car pack you’ll receive exclusive in game gifts, but I’m yet to see exactly what that entails since details are sketchy. Apparently you need to check out Forza’s Facebook page, but why waste extra time when you can be behind your wheel?  VIP members also get an expanded storefront and MyForza gallery space, but at this point what is the point of that extra stuff? Sure it’s nice, but we are already accustomed to not having it. The one positive extra that VIP has is custom-made rival events that allow you to compete against other VIP members. Shaving seconds off your time and using different cars in these competitions instill another reason to play the game that most have already conquered.

The VIP Membership is double the cost of regular car packs and the extra content really isn’t anything spectacular. Sure the VIP Rival events are a blast, but that alone isn’t worth 400 Microsoft Points. Each of the 5 cars in the VIP car pack provide high speed enjoyment, but lack the diverse offerings you’ll find in other car packs. They are a great addition to your garage and will make other players envious if they don’t own them, but don’t really justify forking over 800 Microsoft Points.
