Call of Duty Ghosts Xbox One video review

We already well covered Call of Duty Ghosts in our Xbox 360 and PC review scoring the game 8.5/10 putting it slightly ahead of EA’s Battlefield 4. Now we turn to the Xbox One version and determine whether this is the definitive Xbox console version.

Call of Duty Ghosts Xbox One review:

Today we’re taking a look at the Xbox One version of Call of Duty Ghosts to determine whether the upgrade is worthwhile. From the offset, the game plays exactly the same as the Xbox 360 version except the only real difference is a more crisp looking game.

Players can jump into the single player campaign and enjoy the full on story and combat including new sections which allow the use of the dog Riley. As far as a first person shooter campaign is concerned, there’s a lot of variety in terms of missions and solid gameplay that fans will be familiar with. The AI does tend to be a little too lenient at times, with enemies poking their heads out from cover, but all in all the pacing is pretty good.

The multiplayer portion remains in tact with local and online play being available where players can mix and match with bots. The new squads feature is also welcomed here alongside new modes such as Alien Extinction. There’s a lot of multiplayer madness to be had here with a wealth of game types and a number of themed maps from the main story. If there’s only one criticism here, and that’s the size of some maps versus the numbers of players being on the large side and making for a more slower paced game. There are a fair number of players online, but not in same league as the Xbox 360 version.

In terms of differences, between the Xbox 360 version, the game exudes a far more polished look that sharpens the images and runs at a steady smooth frame rate. There is a noticeable difference between the two, although this doesn’t mask the fact that there are some areas which look much better than others.  The cod engine involves more physics and special effects this time, and is worked well into the solo campaign with some impressive results.

Call of Duty Ghosts is definitely looking better on Xbox One compared to its last gen counterpart, but still falls short when compared to the PC as expected. That said, if you’re after a smooth COD experience with superior looks on console, then this is certainly well worth the upgrade, and if you’re jumping in for the first time, then Ghosts is an excellent package all round.
