Acron: Attack of the Squirrels Gameplay VR & Mobile – Gamescom 2019

Acron: Attack of the Squirrels from Resolution Games is a fun to play co-op game. One player assumes the role of the tree using a VR headset and the others gather around and play as the pesky squirrels using android or Apple devices. A minimum of two mobile players is required to get the ball rolling. We played this at Gamescom 2019 and it was a fun and somewhat energetic excursion, especially for the VR player.

The game works as follows: The squirrels team-up and need to grab the acorns from the base of the tree, then return them to their starting point. Easy-pee-zee you might say. Well, the tree can pick up the squirrels and throw them into the drink or at each other. Pick up various items to throw at them and also retrieve any dropped acorns with some well-placed shots. The squirrels come in various forms each boasting a specific ability such as tunnel builder, speed booster, shielded tank or platform builder. When used in co-op it’s quite tricky for the tree to keep an eye on them despite the power of the tree.

We had fun playing this as it looks like quite the competitive party game. The mobile action worked very well as did the VR play. The game releases for VR platforms on August 29th and in the meantime, take a look at our gameplay session.
