Space Hulk Deathwing Gameplay 4K/2K – GTX 1080

Streum On Studio released their Space Hulk Deathwing on PC yesterday and whilst there’s a few issues with performance for some people, the game offers intense first person shooting action based on the Warhammer 40,000 universe from Games Workshop. In a nutshell, you control one of the Space Marines and enter one of the Space Hulk craft against an infestation of Genestealers. It’s a perfect excuse to maim and kill although that’s not always as easy as it sounds. Whilst the Space Marines wear their heavy armour and come well equipped, the sheer numbers of enemies can often overwhelm. Playing the opening mission and it’s pretty tense and exciting in an “Alien” kind of way. You can issue tactical commands to your two team mates (although in the heat of battle this can be problematic) and search through the darkened corridors of the Space Hulk.

We put the game in 4K with all of the options at their maximum and managed to maintain 30 frames per second or more for the most part. However, once the enemies came in their masses the dips were too severe (dropping to as low as 20 frames per second) so we dialled some of the settings down to high in the video. The game fares better when dialing down to 1440p it has to be said but there are still numerous dips below 60 frames per second unfortunately and staying around 30 during more intense moments (using a GTX 1080 stock i7 4790K CPU, 16 GB RAM, Win 10 64 Bit OS).

Space Hulk Deathwing is looking like a neat prospect for gamers into dark first person shooters although it might be prudent to hold off for the first patch and possibly new drivers to get the most from the game.
