Ghost Recon Wildlands No HUD – The Best Way To Play?

Ghost Recon Wildlands invites players to sample its near complete wares in the now available open beta. Having already spent much time with the closed beta it’s all becoming familiar ground. There are a few issues to be mindful of in this latest offering which isn’t all smelling of roses. The enemy AI can be a little underwhelming at times rushing towards you making for easy targets. Due to performance issues, dead bodies leave the map way too quickly, to the point of seriously affecting the gameplay for those playing stealthily. Issues aside though, the new area of the open beta offers far greater challenge (supposedly) but is still quite easy even if the game throws things like drone jamming equipment into the mix.

After hours of play we’ve come to the conclusion that the best way to fully enjoy Ghost Recon Wildlands is to ditch all the clutter and hand-holding and go commando. No, not that sort of commando where underwear is ditched, but removing the HUD entirely. There’s simply too many HUD elements that make the game monotonously predictable. Scout area with drone, mark targets, sync shoot, rinse…repeat. However, with the HUD disabled you can no longer do any of these things. The jury’s out on whether sync shot should be enabled as it seems some sections make it a requirement if you’re to maintain stealth. However, HUD off presents an entirely different feeling when playing. Here’s hoping Ubisoft make a specific “hardcore” mode that makes use of this rather than relying on players to do it themselves.

Take a look at the two videos which show a much more tense, natural and thrilling game when the HUD is disabled. The first video offers a successful attempt with no commentary and the second a failure with commentary – go figure.
