Americans don’t want discs? Resident Evil 6 PC disc free in North America

Capcom just released details of the Resident Evil 6 PC spec requirements and the long awaited release date which falls on March 22nd next year. What comes as a surprise is the fact that European gamers will be privy to not only digitally downloading the game like their American brethren , but also will have the option to purchase the game at retail as well.

It’s an interesting move for Capcom, but perhaps highlights the many gaming  differences between the two continents.  The American region is one massive unified English speaking land mass, whereas in Europe , is a melting pot of diverse countries each with their own habits and trends.  Perhaps there’s good cause for Capcom to adopt this policy, but it really does suggest that Digital Distribution is massively popular in the US of A; with things like Valve’s Steam service paving the way for PC gamers to get the latest releases.

At least Capcom will save a pretty penny on distribution costs across the massive continent, but in doing so brings up the issue of fans not having a collectable physical copy in their hands which for some is an issue. Perhaps the disc version in itself will become a collectible item, or is simply the sign of a bygone age as Digital paves the way forward.
