40 Million PS4 Units Sold Worldwide

Sony has today announced that it has sold through to retailers (in 124 countries) over 40 million PS4 units worldwide as of May 22nd 2016 which is an impressive milestone to reach. It has to be said, that 40 million is not the same as actual units in the hands of gamers but it’s still an extremely high figure to boast about. Out of interest, the most recent exclusive release for the system, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 2.7 million units in its first week of sale. Andrew House President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment commented:

“We are truly grateful for the enormous support from our fans and partners across the globe, which helped us achieve this significant milestone in such a short span of time,”. He continued:

“We will strive to deliver even more exciting gaming experiences to our users, further driving the momentum and accelerating the expansion of the PS4 platform and its business this fiscal year by offering an unparalleled line-up of games, bringing our virtual reality system, PlayStation VR, to market and providing ground-breaking features and network services.”
